Description:
EduCampus: Creative Writing Workshop – Dia di Betico
January 23rd, 2026
Group 1 - Middle Students
Contextual Note
This poem was created collectively by middle school students during a 30-minute poetry lesson marking 40 years of Status Aparte and briefly talking about Betico Croes. Students were invited to choose eight words that inspired their thinking about Betico Croes, the era of resistance, and legacy: resistance, libertador, visionary, identity, autonomia, Arubiano, responsibility, and future.
From these, three keywords were selected, and students contributed associated words, thoughts, and short phrases. Through guided discussion and collective writing, this input was gathered and later lightly edited and streamlined by the instructor to produce a poem that reflects the students’ voices, questions, and perspectives on autonomy, identity, and responsibility today.
Chosen words Group 1: Resistance, Visionary, Arubiano
Associated words: pursue, bravery, something always to be remembered, strong, eyesight, goal, painting, inspiration, dreams, cultura, nature, flag, abo mes.
