Zie ook: Aruba : zoals het was, zoals het werd (1953). Oudtijds moest de commandeur elke maand een overzicht 'der aan het Rijk behoorende ezels en ezelinnen' aan de gouverneur sturen. Hier is de staat van Jacob Thielen I uit juni 1825, waaruit blijkt, dat er toen 358 ezels waren op Aruba.
