Description:
Caption:
The Navas family eating the evening meal. The meal consists of fish and "funchi" in "pan bati" style, i.e., in flat pancake style, "God Bless Sir" is strict literal translation of Papiamento phrase - "Dios Bondicona Shon", meaning "God Bless You". Paper streamer decorations were a remnant of Christmas decorations. These decorations remain up until well "seasoned" with fly specks. Toward late fall they are ready for removal and new Xmas decorations are put up at the appropriate time. During the meal, cats and small farm livestock wander in and out of the room.
