The Interinsular Consultation is a working group whose members come from all 6 areas of the Caribbean part of the Kingdom. This working group, which will soon become a foundation, focuses, among other things, on creating a reparatory agenda for and a knowledge network of institutions on the six Dutch Caribbean (is)lands. On September 28, 29 and 30, 2023, the Interinsular Consultation held a symposium on St. Martin for its members and invited experts. The attached book is a result of this symposium. SAILING IN SALT WATER contains 12 papers which were presented at the Interinsular Consultation Symposium. Eighteen Dutch Caribbean professionals reflected on an agenda for reparations and healing for the Dutch Caribbean islands and the need for a Dutch Caribbean knowledge and awareness network to support this truly historical project. Through this publication, we share our thoughts with civil society organizations, institutions, governments, and descendants of victims of Transatlantic slavery and other forms of forced colonial labor in the Dutch Caribbean. The aim of this book is to support and promote a united Dutch Caribbean consensus towards Restorative Justice and Healing which encompasses the voices and aspirations of all entities, (grassroots) organizations and the society at large of our islands. Inclusion is a must.

Het Interinsulair Overleg is een werkgroep waarvan de leden afkomstig zijn uit alle 6 gebieden van het Caribische deel van het Koninkrijk. Deze werkgroep, die binnenkort een stichting wordt, richt zich onder andere op het creëren van een herstelagenda voor en een kennisnetwerk van instellingen op de zes Nederlands Caribische (ei)landen. Op 28, 29 en 30 september 2023 hield het Interinsulair Overleg een symposium op Sint Maarten voor haar leden en uitgenodigde experts. Bijgaand boek is een resultaat van dit symposium. SAILING IN SALT WATER bevat 12 papers die tijdens het symposium van het Interinsulair Overleg zijn gepresenteerd. Achttien Nederlands Caribische professionals reflecteerden op een agenda voor herstel en reparatie voor de Nederlands Caribische eilanden en de behoefte aan een Nederlands Caribisch kennis- en bewustzijnsnetwerk om dit werkelijk historische project te ondersteunen. Door middel van deze publicatie delen we onze gedachten met maatschappelijke organisaties, instellingen, overheden en afstammelingen van slachtoffers van trans-Atlantische slavernij en andere vormen van gedwongen koloniale arbeid in de Nederlandse Cariben. Het uiteindelijke doel van dit boek is het ondersteunen en bevorderen van een eensgezinde Caribische consensus over herstelrecht en reparatie die de stemmen en aspiraties van alle entiteiten, (basis)organisaties en de samenleving als geheel van onze eilanden omvat. Inclusie is een must.
